The Orange Rocoto Pepper, also known as the Orange Manzano Pepper, is commonly translated as the “apple chile”. Originating in the Andes mountain slopes of South America, the Orange Rocoto is one of the most cold-tolerant peppers.

Orange Manzano Pepper plants have been cultivated for thousands of years and are very long-lasting. It does great in cooler weather and grows in partial shade. If they avoid frost, you can expect bountiful harvests for up to 15 years. These plants grow up to 4 ft. tall (some growing much taller) and bloom vibrant blue flowers with hairy leaves. This pepper is shaped like a small 2” orange apple and features a thick pod flesh – think a smaller and spicier version of an orange bell pepper. Watch as they turn from green to orange when mature, featuring unique black seeds.
